Family Day 2024 at Richmond Art Gallery

As part of the Richmond Children’s Arts Festival, the gallery will be offering free registered Creativity Classes, or families can drop in throughout the day to view the exhibitions and do a self-guided art activity at the gallery, or a Printmaking Activity in the Cultural Centre Atrium.

Self Guided Visit at the Art Gallery
10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Art Gallery Exhibition Spaces

Drop-in throughout the day to view the current exhibitions and create a small drawing in response to the art you see. Your drawings can be taken home, or hung up on the community gallery walls in the Hope Smith Art Lounge. No registration required, children must be accompanied by an adult. Free drop-in.

Printmaking Lab with Yaimel López Zaldívar
10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Richmond Cultural Centre Atrium (near the front doors of the building)
Immerse yourself in the art of printmaking with Yaimel López Zaldívar. Using traditional techniques and water-based inks on a printmaking press, you’ll have the opportunity to create your own single-edition image. Discover the magic of this hands-on process as you bring your artistic vision to life. Free drop-in.

Creativity Classes: Storytime at Richmond Art Gallery
12:30 – 1:30 PM OR  2:00 – 3:00 PM
Richmond Art Gallery Program Room
In connection to the exhibition Let the real world inI Dream Library will host an interactive story-time for ages 6-10, followed by experiments with literary collage techniques to make unique artworks on paper. All materials and instruction provided.
Limited to 25 participants, pre-registration is required.

To Attend a Creativity Class:
Registration with the Children’s Arts Festival for an one hour time-slot at 12:30 PM or 2:00 PM is required due to limited capacity.
Story will begin at the start of the session, so ensure you and your family arrive on time.
All family members participating in the art activity must register. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

About Yaimel López Zaldívar:
Yaimel is a Cuban artist based in Vancouver, Canada, where he works as an artist, graphic designer and educator.  With more than ten years experiences his work has been  exhibited in the United States, Canada, New Zealand and Cuba as part of collective and individual exhibits. He has also collaborated with several cultural organizations and his work appears in different magazines and books. More info: yaimel.com/
