The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra presents a new video game special concert on June 12 & 13, 2020 at The Orpheum: Heroes: A Video Game Symphony.

Modern day video game music has come a long way from the electronic bleeps and buzzes of Pac Man, Tetris, and Super Mario Bros. Throughout the decades, video games have gained mainstream acceptance and their music has grown to incorporate vibrant and dramatic orchestral scores written by some of the world’s most renowned composers.

In Heroes: A Video Game Symphony, the VSO will present an immersive experience linking music from revered video game franchises with high-definition game play footage. This two-night-only performance on June 12 & 13 at The Orpheum is part of the VSO Digital Hall Concert series presented by TELUS.

Heroes: A Video Game Symphony will take audiences on a hero's journey, as set forth by Joseph Campbell's monomyth; a narrative framework that can be seen in many of the games, film, and books throughout history. Each stage in the monomyth is a chapter in the story, and each game and musical selection is chosen primarily for its suitability for the chapter that it is featured in. This is the story of a hero, told through the amazing worlds of other heroes, in an unforgettable experience that's not to be missed.
