PEERS® for Teens - Social Skills Training for the Modern Teenager

PEERS (Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills) is a 12-week evidence-based social skills program for teens. Developed by Dr. Elizabeth Laugeson at UCLA, it is offered in a neuroaffirming, strengths-based way that respects how each teen connects. Research shows that neurodivergent teens, including those who are autistic or have ADHD, as well as teens who experience anxiety or social challenges, make meaningful progress through PEERS.

Peers for Teens provides a safe, supportive space where young people build confidence, develop life skills, form positive friendships, and discover their potential through engaging peer-led activities and mentorship.

The PEERS Social Skills Training Program is designed to help teens enhance their social skills and confidence through interactive learning. Over 12 weeks, teens take part in 90-minute sessions, offered in person in Victoria, Vancouver, and Surrey, or online via Zoom. The program incorporates engaging activities and practical training to build essential social skills.

Parental participation is an essential aspect of the PEERS for Teens model. During the last 20 minutes of each session, parents will log in to review the week’s homework and learn practical strategies to support their teen’s social growth. They take an active role in helping their teens complete weekly assignments, including tasks like practicing phone conversations with peers or organizing social gatherings.

Under the guidance of a trained facilitator, the program empowers both teens and parents with the knowledge and skills to build and maintain meaningful friendships.

PEERS gives teens a toolkit, not a rulebook. We teach social strategies that research shows help with making and keeping friends, and we're clear that using them is always the teen's choice. If a strategy doesn't feel right or doesn't fit a teen's own goals for connection, they're never required to use it.

Our approach focuses on what works, not on looking a certain way. Skills are taught as concrete, judgment-free steps, which takes the guesswork out of unspoken social rules and eases the anxiety that can come with them. We respect that there's no single right way to connect, and we help each teen find the approaches that feel right for them.
