Spring Bird Sits (FREE) - Wild Bird Trust of British Columbia (WBT)

*The event has already taken place on this date: Sat, 09/21/2019
Join us for an accessible introduction to the method of Bird Language at one or all of these free early mornings sessions. Species identification is not the focus, rather we pay attention to how birds communicate within and between species.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.
WHY Bird Language?
Birds are amazing wild creatures that are all around us. Their senses are highly attuned to everything that is relevant in their
surroundings. And birds are always communicating... by body language, sounds, song, movement, and even silence.

We can tap into what birds know by learning to pay attention and listen.

"Paying attention also awakens something in us. We are evolved to belong, to be deeply connected in this wondrous fabric, and to have reciprocal and respectful relationships with all things," states Sara Ross.

What to expect at a Bird Sit:
We spread out in a defined area and sit stationary for 40 minutes, then join together to share experiences, co-creating a map that reveals what we saw and heard. You will be amazed at the patterns that emerge and what the birds are communicating about.

Instructions for participants:
Please arrive promptly (7:30am) at Greeters Hut so we can orient and travel together to our sit spots. Bring note-taking materials. Bring binoculars if you have them. Come prepared for weather, potentially including something easily portable to sit on. Some knowledge of bird vocalizations an asset, but NOT AT ALL required. Contact Facilitator Sara Ross if you have any questions birdsteachme@gmail.com

FREE for WBT members, memberships also available for purchase at the program. Photo by Laurel Dykstra.
