“Our new exhibit tells the stories of community celebrations and the Canada Day weekend was often a time for people to come together and enjoy music and games. We are excited to bring some of that spirit to the museum site this year” says Curator Laura Minta Holland. Throughout the day, she and Assistant Curator Heather Flynn will lead maypole dancing and invite visitors to play some of the games that were part of Britannia Beach’s historic community festivals.
Lyrically rich and unrelenting, Coldwater Road gives storytelling a reason to swing. Waltzing between love songs and foot-stomping outlaw ballads, Coldwater Road covers a lot of ground. Their style reaches across Folk, Americana, Rock, and Country with songs often rooted in rough frontier history. The band will be releasing a new album in 2022 focusing on Canadian History, including the song ‘The Mine and the Mill’, which was inspired by a visit to Britannia Mine Museum.
The performance, games and access to the "More Than a Mine: Recreation in a Mining Town" exhibit are all included in museum admission on July 1st.
