This compelling play by Tai Amy Grauman offers a powerful and poetic journey through pivotal moments in Métis history. This intimate, 50-minute performance follows two souls as they traverse seven important moments in Métis history—beginning with the birth of Métis nations on the plains, through the fur trade and the disappearance of the buffalo, to the rise of the Métis Association of Alberta. The story weaves together historical events, cultural memory, and a life-like buffalo puppet to celebrate love, loss, resilience, and the rich lessons carried by the buffalo.
Staged in the intimate Studio B at Gateway Theatre, this production uses vivid storytelling, striking visual elements, and dynamic physical performance to honour Métis traditions, and sparks meaningful conversations about identity, culture, and belonging. Adds Barbara Tomasic, Gateway Theatre Executive Artistic Director, “Where Have All the Buffalo Gone? has been a huge hit across Canada, and we are thrilled to bring this beautiful story to Gateway for our Family Day show.”
