International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Celebrate inclusion and accessibility at Surrey City Hall on December 3 for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, featuring interactive activities, performances, and community connections. Join the Surrey Accessibility Leadership Team (SALT) to celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) — a United Nations-sanctioned day that promotes understanding of disability issues and supports the dignity, rights, and well-being of persons with disabilities.

About IDPD
This day is an opportunity to:
- Celebrate the contributions of people with disabilities in all areas of society.
- Raise awareness about physical, social, and attitudinal barriers that limit inclusion.
- Promote action toward creating accessible and inclusive environments for everyone.
Event details
Drop in from 11am-12pm for coffee, tea, and donuts, and take part in interactive activities:
- Meet members of the Surrey Accessibility Leadership Team and learn about the City’s Accessibility Action Plan
- Try the Paralympic sport Boccia
- Experience a Touch Tour with VocalEye Descriptive Arts Society
- Unwind in the Sensory Friendly Zone
- Connect with the Equal Access Collective
From 12:00-12:45pm, enjoy a special program featuring:
- An Indigenous welcome with perspectives on disability
- Welcoming remarks from City staff
- A lively, interactive wheelchair dance performance
