Investigation: Migration!
Super Weekend is a monthly program geared toward families. There are lots of activities that explore different features of the Fraser River, from its booming industry to its diverse ecosystem!
Every spring, several million birds migrate to the Fraser River estuary. Some are just stopping over on their way further north, and some stick around for the summer. From gulls to sandpipers, eagles to plovers, many species of birds rely on the Fraser watershed as a source of food and shelter. At this time of year, it’s extra busy with migratory birds stopping by for a rest, or to stay over the summer! Together they form a key part of the amazing biodiversity that exists along the mighty Fraser River.
Look no feather to investigate some of the incoming bird species in this month’s Super Weekend!
WHAT:
- Learn about the importance of the Fraser River for migratory birds
- Discover local migratory bird species through a fun bird sound matching game
- Create your own bird origami to take home!
WHEN: Saturday – Sunday, May 24th - 25th, 10:00am - 4:00pm
WHERE: Fraser River Discovery Centre, 788 Quayside Drive, New Westminster, BC
COST: Includes admission to the Discovery Centre. Specific costs are listed below:
- Family Ticket ($20.00) – for 2 adults and up to 4 children
- Adult Ticket ($8.00) – adult 19 and older
- Senior Ticket ($6.00) – senior 65 and older
- Student Ticket ($6.00) – student ID required
- Child ticket ($5.00) – children aged 3-12
- Children 2 and under register for free
Caretakers are asked to remain with their children for the duration of their visit.
