JANELLE NADEAU
Harpists are often described as angelic. Vancouver harpist Janelle Nadeau is magnetic. She has a way of drawing people in with her warm and engaging performance style. Drawing from a diverse repertoire of classical, Celtic, original, contemporary tunes and storytelling. Currently the acting principle harpist of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, the Turning Point Ensemble and her own groups; Janelle maintains a rigorous performing schedule. She has taken the stage with everyone from Diana Krall and Kanye West to the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and has performed on television and radio including on the CBS show, Supergirl.
JOAQUIN AYALA
Joaquin Ayala is a keyboard and multi-instrumentalist. Classically trained on piano through the RCM, he went on to become a pipe organist and harpsichordist, with a focus on Baroque music. In this concert, he will be playing a symphonie, an ancestor of the hurdy-gurdy which works by bowing strings with a rosined wheel and at the same time depressing notes on a keyboard. He will also be playing harmonium, a portable pump organ, and bass and tenor nyckleharpa, a traditional Swedish instrument which is bowed, much like a violin, but has keys to register notes. Joaquin and his various instruments have been featured on radio, television, and on various movie soundtracks, and he has toured extensively around Canada.
SERENA EADES
Vancouver-based violinist Serena Eades’ unique style reflects a lifetime of studying western classical music and various folk idioms – primarily Celtic and Brazillian music. She is known as a member of Delhi 2 Dublin and has performed with Dream Theatre, Alejandro Sanz, Tanya Tagaq, Tony Trishka, Alison Brown, Matt Glaser, Cooral, CR Avery and more. She has toured throughout North America, Malaysia, India, and the UK, playing stages from Burning Man to Glastonbury. Her distinct sound is rich, full bodied, textured and animated. With a B.Mus. from the Berklee College of Music, Serena is at home as a performer, recording artist, and educator.
