River Basin Days: Winter Weather Wonders

River Basin Days offers family-friendly outdoor programs across the Fraser River Basin, exploring its biodiversity. This month’s event at Surrey Bend Regional Park on January 11th focuses on winter weather's impact. Activities include weather basics, tracking journals, and how humans/animals adapt to winter.

River Basin Days is a series of outdoor public programs for families. Join us at different locations around the Fraser River Basin as we explore this incredible watershed! Our staff will guide you through one hour of activities, experiments, and art projects as we learn about the biodiversity of this great river.  

  

The dropping temperature is an opportunity to learn how winter weather can impact the biodiversity around the Fraser River. This month, we are headed to Surrey Bend Regional Park to learn all about the winter weather! 

  

This event will take place rain or shine, so please come prepared for the weather.   

 

Registration cost includes admission to the Fraser River Discovery Centre. Pay when you register for this workshop, and the next time you visit the Centre in-person, you will be admitted for free.

WHEN: Saturday, January 11th, 2:00-3:00 PM and with enough interest, another session will be offered at 12:30-1:30PM. 

 

WHERE: Surrey Bend Regional Park (meeting location at Surrey Bend Regional Park Parking Lot, 17775 104 Ave, Surrey, BC) 

 

WHAT:  

  • Learn all about the basics of weather. 
  • Observe and record the weather with a weather tracking journal. 
  • Learn how humans and animals stay warm during the winter months.  

WHO: While everyone is welcome, this workshop is aimed at children and their families. 

 

COST: Includes admission to the Discovery Centre. Specific costs are listed below:   

  • Family Ticket ($20.00 each) – for 2 adults and up to 4 children   
  • Adult Ticket ($8.00) – Adult 19 and older   
  • Senior Ticket ($6.00) – Senior 65 and older   
  • Student Ticket ($6.00) – Student ID required   
  • Child ticket ($5.00) – children aged 3-12   
  • Children 2 and under register for free.  

 

COVID-19 Safety: 

  • Pre-registration is required.  
  • Individual group size is limited to five (5) maximum. Workshop registration limited to five (5) groups.  
  • During the workshop, groups are required to follow physical distancing guidelines.  
  • Masks are recommended.
