In a concert that explores the pathos of love and loss, the Vancouver Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra invites you to join them in their first concert of the new year. Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde: Prelude and Liebestod contains the famous chord of unresolved dissonance, perhaps foreshadowing the fate of the opera’s characters. Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade spins a series of musical tales in a symphonic suite based on the famous Arabic fairytale, “The Thousand and One Nights”. In an annual showcase of young and emergent talent, this concert will feature the winner of VAM’s 2022 Kay Meek Competition.
Ian Parker, conductor
Aaron Kang, violin solo
Program:
Wagner, "Prelude and Liebestod" from Tristan und Isolde
Brahms, Violin Concerto in D Major
Rimsky-Korsakov, Scheherazade
