Heritage Thursdays is a weekly Thursday afternoon children's program that operates in the summer. Each year the program is based on a popular or pertinent theme. This years theme is "Through the Artists Lens" with each session exploring a new art medium! Each session has children creating crafts and doing activities relating to the theme.
July 14th - Group of Seven - A nature themed session, diving into the Group of Seven who were known for their beautiful nature paintings. This session we will be painting a landscape inspired pot, and working with pastels to create our own landscapes!
July 21st - Jackson Pollock - A drippy, messy session this one explores Jackson Pollock in tie dye. Get ready to make an inspired tie dye creation, and to get inspired by our artist of the week with splatter paint! (Note: This session requires you to bring a white item to tie dye)
July 28th- Sculptures - Explore different sculpture methods. This week we're making concrete coasters and have a fun cardboard sculpture craft.
August 4th - Van Gogh - Create a Starry Night in a Jar! Make a beautiful night scene that lights up, and work on completing his greatest masterpiece!
August 11th- Abstract Art - A classic, Pour Painting! Kids will also work on exploring Abstract Art in a fun dice game that helps you create something wonderful!
Heritage Thursdays afternoons run from 1:00 - 2:30 PM starting on July 14th until August 11th with a fee of $5 per child, ages 5-12. For more information or to register please contact the museum at 604-465-4322, or by email pittmeadowsmuseum@telus.net.
